KiwiSix upgrade voor Korg Polysix

Goed nieuws voor de liefhebbers van Korg Polysix: de KiwiSix van KiwiTechnics.
Niet alleen een zeer uitgebreide MIDI kit, maar meteen een drop-in vervanging van het veelgeplaagde KLM-367 bord.

The KiwiSix Upgrade features:-
•A complete replacement board for the troubled Korg Polysix KLM-367 circuit board. These are usually battery damaged which can render the synth unusable.
•1024 Tones can be stored and edited. It is also possible to temporarily edit any Tone. Tones are selected using a two button system. The first button selects the high digit (1- and the second button the low digit (1-. This allows 64 tones (1-1 to 8- on any bank. There are 16 banks that are selected using the A-D bank buttons. The high digit of the tone is displayed as a flashing tone button and the low digit is a steady light so the selected tone can be viewed at a glance.
•MidiCC support for all parameters, Midi Sysex support for Tone Dump & Load.
•Midi In & Out Channels can be separately set.
•Patch Editor Control of Parameters (requires PE v 5.0 or later)
•Two styles of Polyphonic (7th note override or 7th note ignored) and Last note priority Unison Key Assign Mode
•Chord Mode. Any chord with up to 6 notes can be set and played from any key
•The Arpeggiator can be clocked from the internal/external clock or midi clock divided by 3,4,6,9,12,18,24,36,48,72,96,128,144,168 or 192.
•Arp modes are Up, Down, Up and Down, 0, 1 or 2 octaves and can be controlled via midi
•Key transpose allows transposition to any key Up or down up to 2 octaves
•Arpeggiator can be Started, Stopped & Continued using Midi Commands
•Appeggiator will Output Midi Data
•Internet update system
•The Upgrade comes with a replacement metal plate for the power cord. This plate has an IEC socket for a standard power cord (note - Power cord is not supplied), screws and space to mount the Korg Serial Number plate and midi in and out sockets are mounted. An internal cable is supplied to plug into the KiwiSix Upgrade board for Midi I/O.
•Installation is simple and the only soldering required is for the Power wires to the replacement plate. Full installation instructions will be in the User Manual.
•Future plans are for other features to be controlled via midi. Due to the lack of control buttons it will not be possible to add further options using the front panel controls so these will be available using midi control only.
•Compatible midiCC control set for all Kiwitechnics products

Als ik nu op de kiwi site kijk, zie ik "coming soon", een foto van het prototype, en de zin over emailen is weggehaald. Het lijkt erop dat we dichterbij het definitieve product komen...

Is er eigenlijk een verdeler van Kiwi Technics in onze buurt, of moeten we rechtstreeks in Nieuw-Zeeland kopen? Zoja, denk ik dat we bij gelegenheid best een group buy opzetten.

ja als het buitensporig veel geld is dan pas ik gewoon. anders count me in, een 1981 synth up-to-date maken daar ben ik wel voor in.

Als er een groupbuy komt ga ik hem in ieder geval niet organiseren, simpelweg omdat ik geen Paypal heb en niet in Nederland woon. Maar als de kit niet al te duur is ga ik er ook zeker eentje kopen. Up to date maken is leuk, betrouwbaar en werkend maken is leuker.

Reken er maar op dat ie minstens net zo veel als een PE gaat kosten. De xp3 upgrade is al aardig aan de prijs en dan krijg je alleen maar een rommetje en een klein printje en je moet zelf nog flink solderen ook, neemt niet weg dat het een geniale upgrade is. Met de kiwisix heb je een compleet vervangend computerboard voor de polysix, erin klikken en draaien zowat, dat gaat niet goedkoop worden en er zullen zeker geen zelfbouwkitjes komen (smd). Ik begin alvast met sparen

De PE lijkt me nog wel wat duurder in productie en ontwikkeling dan het KiwiSix board. Niet dat dit veel over de verkoopprijs van dat ding hoeft te betekenen. Ik hoop op zo'n 300€, maar dat kan best wel eens meer worden.

Ik bedoel maar: Kiwisix is een board ontwikkeld op basis van de functionaliteit van een bestaand board, met wat extra software op IC niveau. PE bevat een bult software, eveneens een print, een behuizing, 13 verlichte pots, een LCD display, 19 verlichte faders, een hoop knoppen, een voeding...

Maar zoals je zegt: als je dan ziet wat de 3P upgrade al kost...

We hadden het onlangs op SF er nog over dat de Polysix een erg nette 8 bits 256 step resolutie op alle pots heeft. Enter KiwiSix: 4096 steps upgrade!

KiwiSix. Due to a small amount of stepping at very low MG DCO levels the hardware has been changed. The new board for this is currently being made. Testing is proceeding in the mean time. The replacement rear plates are ready. The User Manual is in progress. The new hardware has enabled the Kiwisix to be much higher precision. Instead of the original Polysix 8 bit control full 12 bit output is now possible on all variable controls. This will mean very smooth bends & variable controls as there are now 4096 steps instead of 256 available. This has meant a fine control system for midi control has been necessary so an optional ‘Fine Adjust’ variable has been added to the midi CC table (CC#04). The way this will work is the control CC is sent first with 0-127 steps immediately followed by the fine adjust CC (0-31). These are then combined in the KiwiSix to make a single 12 bit control. The same Fine Adjust CC can be used after any variable CC command. If the Fine Control is not sent then the CC will be the same as a normal 0- 127 control. The dump format has also changed to accommodate this

Niet dat dit veel over de verkoopprijs van dat ding hoeft te betekenen. Ik hoop op zo'n 300€, maar dat kan best wel eens meer worden

Het is ook een prima midi upgrade, daarvoor zou ik er wel 1tje willen.
Moet geen 300neuroten gaan kosten, dan haak ik af als midi-upgrade klant.

We zien wel wat het wordt. Kiwi is in ieder geval geen bedrijf dat van die boutique prijsjes ("maakt niet uit wat het kost, als het maar meer dan tweeduizend is") hanteert, maar hun andere producten zijn ook niet bepaald spotgoedkoop.

Het spul moet natuurlijk ook nog van NZ hier geraken. Groepsaankoop kan daarin interessant zijn.

Voor de polysix heb je midi uitbreidingen varierend van zelfbouw t/m 150 Euro en dan heb je nog de kenton retrofit die gelijkwaardige uitbreidingen bied als de kiwisix maar bovenop het bestaande oude computerbard komt, ook altijd nog 330 pond / E420 - http://www.kentonuk.com/products/items/sockets/korg/polysix.shtml
Dus ja al dit beschouwende reken ik er maar op weer rond de E360 uit te komen (daar had ik de PE voor inclusief naar nederland halen en gemiddelde douanediefstal) en dan denk ik dat je wel tevreden mag zijn gezien de alternatieven

Wat die douane betreft: geldt dat ook voor de KiwiSix, want dat zijn onderdelen terwijl de PE een apparaat is.

Hier moet je te veel ook los schrijven.
Je schrijft het alleen aan elkaar als het een begrip aangeeft, bijvoorbeeld: het teveel aan nare reacties werd het forumlid noodlottig.

Over hoe die douaneheffing wordt berekend/beoordeeld kan ik alleen maar uit ervaring spreken. Over het totaalbedrag inclusief verzending van de PE (75NZD) heb ik ongeveer 19% extra af moeten rekenen bij de postbode. Waarschijnlijk heb ik dus gewoon btw volle mep betaald, maar vond het al met al wel meevallen dus.
