Joooo!! von haulshoven`s nieuwste album

review:

As always, it’s a pleasure to listen Von Haulshoven’s music. Even if Eppie E. Hulshof multiplies his musical releases at an infernal mode, there is constantly a little something that charms, that hooks through each of his works. Maybe it’s because they have this analog poetry from Phaedra or Body Love areas. A warm musical approach, based on dreams and melancholy. But however, the Dutch synthesist and studio worm managed every time to surprise or to touch, when it is not both, in every new release and A Taste of Time does not break of this conclusion.

With A Classic Move, we are on known territory. Delicate chords jump up and down in a Schulze cosmic universe, crossed by synthesized breaths which delight among a wash of shooting stars. Subtle and soft rhythmic permutations, circulating in loops, modify a sequential environment which feeds of fine lines of bass which waves among a sea of twinkling arpeggios. Keys which hiccough in a slightly dreamy sound universe and in the analog delights close to the soil of Klaus Schulze. A beautiful title, which opens one of Von Haulshoven serene album to date. Realizer floats in a cosmic sweetness intersected by heavy droning with beautiful chords which flutter and dance slightly in a mellotron layer. At mid-way, a heavy atonal wind sweeps the movement, insufflating synthesized breaths, which run in curl, a more plaintive approach, while the delicate arpeggios continue their hypnotic dance on a structure which becomes softer and dreamy.

Over the Top is the most animated track on A Taste of Time. Pulsations to irregular amplitudes pave the way to a neurotic sequence which undertakes a strange hopping dance with the opening pulsations. A fascinating intro which dives into an anarchic sequential universe where keys merge with crash, on a tempo which evolves towards a tangent to nervous vaulting and a synth with curly solos. Solos which try to bore a rhythmic opaqueness, where cadences are intermingling in a discord supervised by an aggressive synth.

The Time Randomnizer is a magnificent atonal movement which waltzes on a floating synth, to dreamer’s raids of mellotron flutes and a solitary guitar which gets lost in a dark cosmos. A soft moment of reverie, which is bringing up livens up slightly towards the end, with a magnificent mellotron progress, which never breaks this idle tranquility. A very beautiful title which defined perfectly well Von Haulshoven’s poetic moods. A slow dodecaphonic and lugubrious intro opens the epic The Taste of Coffee. We are plunged into a linear sound oblivion, stuffed with metallic and threatening reverberations in the eye of a cyclone to static rotations. After this atonal sound storm, appears a fine sequence which hems under a fluty mellotron, which evolves among slow oscillations. A felted and discreet sequence which stirs finely to begin a holding back minimalism race, under sinuous waves silvered in a cosmos always so dark and enigmatic, tinted by a finale with twinkling arpeggios.

A Taste of Time is a soft Von Haulshoven incursion in a very poetic and sweetly dreamy musical world. A sonorous journey into the analog days, where inertia was the privilege of cosmic waltzes that swirl unlimitedly, such a dream that never end. A very beautiful opus which will certainly please to fans of Phaedra and Body Love area.
