Presonus Firepod kraakt

Beste mensen,

Ik heb een tijdje geleden de Presonus Firepod aangeschaft.
Deze wilde ik gaan gebruiken om onze band op te nemen en om live met samples te spelen via mijn elektrische piano.

Ik heb hier gelezen dat meer mensen problemen hebben met het ding, maar niet precies het probleem hebben wat ik heb.
Het geluid dat uit de Firepod komt kraakt. Of het nu een mp3’tje is, of dat het samples zijn. Zelfs het Windows-opstartgeluid kraakt.
Herinstalleer ik daarentegen de driver van de geluidskaart van mijn laptop of de driver van de Firepod, dan kraakt hij meestal niet na het herstarten van de laptop. Start ik de laptop weer opnieuw op, dan kraakt tie weer.

Ik heb uitgeprobeerd of het aan de latency ligt, maar of ik hem nu op 10ms of 1ms zet: als hij kraakt blijft hij kraken, als hij niet kraakt blijft hij niet kraken.
Ook verschillende kHz maken niet uit (44/96 kHz).

Op andere computers heeft het ding geen last van kraken, alleen op mijn laptop, de Latitude D830 van Dell. Een nieuwe laptop kopen is geen optie, ik heb dit ding net nieuw.

Ps. Geluid dat ik opneem kraakt niet als ik dit later afspeel op een niet-krakende Firepod.
Ik heb Windows XP en heb de nieuwste drivers van zowel mijn laptop als de Firepod geïnstalleerd.

met veel van dit soort interfaces komt het nogal nauw met de firewire kaart van je computer. Vaak maakt het nogal wat uit wat voor chipset daar op zit. op de presonus site is hier ongetwijfeld meer over te vinden.

Pops and Clicks
The light on the front right panel of the FIREPOD is a clock (sync) indicator. It lets you know if your unit is
receiving word clock correctly. Word clock is the manner by which digital devices sync frame rates.
Proper word clock sync prevents digital devices from having pops, clicks, or distortion in the audio signal (due to mismatched digital audio transmission). If the symbol is solid blue, this indicates that your unit is in sync with the PC or a S/PDIF device that is plugged into the S/PDIF input on the back of the unit. If the light is solid red, this indicates that the FIREPOD does not have sync from the computer and that the unit might not be connected properly. If the unit is flashing red and blue, the unit is not receiving external sync. This
would be caused by the clock source in the FIREPOD control panel being set to S/PDIF with no S/PDIF sync source coming in.

Here are the three different light modes broken down once again:
Blue – solid sync
Red – sync not present.
Flashing Red and Blue – external sync not present

Pops and clicks can also occur with high CPU loads (running a large number of plug-ins) at low latency.
Windows XP – try increasing your latency settings in the FIREPOD’s hardware control panel.

Specs van laptop:
Dell Latitude D830
Windows XP professional
Intel Core 2 Dual CPU @1.80 gHz
2 GB ram

Mijn sequencer: Sigmatel Audio
Met als driver: STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio

Ik heb de laptop via de TU Delft gekocht. (was een aanbieding voor studenten).

Mijn CPU load:
Tijdens het afspelen van een MP3tje (dan kraakt tie namelijk ook): gem. 3%
Tijdens het spelen met samples via cubase VST's: zo'n 40%

met veel van dit soort interfaces komt het nogal nauw met de firewire kaart van je computer. Vaak maakt het nogal wat uit wat voor chipset daar op zit. op de presonus site is hier ongetwijfeld meer over te vinden.

Ik heb ff opgezocht wat chipset inhoudt en las dat het de verbinding tussen processor en moederbord is. Die valt dus onmegelijk om te wisselen voor een andere lijkt mij.

Thnx voor het zoeken. Mijn ledje is altijd blauw, dat zou dus goed moeten zijn...
Ik heb ook het idee dat het meer aan mijn laptop ligt dan aan de Firepod, aangezien die het op andere pc's wel doet. Maarja, je zou zeggen dat als tie het soms zonder kraken kan, waarom dan niet altijd?

Als je een goede firewire kaart voor in de pc zoekt of voor in een laptop moet je kijken naar kaarten met een TI chipset (texas instruments).

De merken SIIG en ADS TECH verkopen dit soort kaarten. En ook als kaart voor in de laptop

Ik ben tot een mooie ontdekking gekomen: als ik naar Network connections ga en daar vervolgens de 1394 connectie disabled en weer enabled tewijl de firepod aan staat, dan kraakt tie daarna niet meer. Ik heb 5 keer mijn pc opnieuw opgestart. Telkens kraakte die voordat ik dit truucje toepaste, en bij 4 van de 5 keer kraakte die niet na het truucje.

Dit is een stuk beter dan elke keer de driver opnieuw installeren en pc opnieuw opstarten wat ik de afgelopen maanden tig keer heb gedaan . Alleen ff disable, enable.
