On Saturday March 1 and 8, 4DSOUND and NGHTDVSN will host two events in a series of Artist-In-Residency performances with none other than Norwegian ambient legend Biosphere and German “sonic house” pioneer Pantha Du Prince

For this occasion they will create a special and one-off show for only 250 people on the unique 4DSOUND system: truly a one of a kind sonic experience where sound images move in an unlimited spatial continuum. A Q&A with the artist will take place after the performance.

What is the 4DSOUND system?

4DSOUND enables you to walk through space and experience sound from all directions. Sound seems to hover in space – like a phantom. Sounds move around, above, beneath and in-between the listeners. Led by your ears, you’re encouraged to explore the space. You can move between blocks of sound, touch lines of sound and walk through walls of sound.

4DSOUND invites you to lose orientation and transcend the actual space you’re in. Sounds can seem intimately close as if whispered in your ear – or floating afar on the distant horizon. Sounds can circle around your head like a flock of birds, or twirl in the air like feathers.

4DSOUND charges, conducts and explodes energies in space. You’re not only hearing sound, but experiencing it – as a manifestation of physical momentum. www.4dsound.net . Max Cooper on the 4DSOUND system:

The 4DSOUND Artist Residency is a program that supports artists in developing new repertoires on the 4DSOUND system. It provides artists with a unique opportunity to develop their musical ideas - in a completely new context. With extensive technical facilities to fully control the spatial sound environment, the artists are invited to invent, and discover, new relationships between sound, the space and the listeners.

Upcoming Artists-in-Residency:
Biosphere - March 1st
Pantha du Prince - March 8th
Vladislav Delay – TBA
Stimming – May 10th

Biosphere is the second in a series of Artist Residency performances on the 4DSOUND system

Biosphere is the main recording name of Norwegian Geir Jenssen, one of the pioneers in ambient electronic music since the early nineties. He is well known for his 'ambient techno' and 'arctic ambient' styles, his use of music loops and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by the users of the Hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album.

Biosphere scrolls through surfaces, constructs machinery, and unravels microscopic electronic patterns. His architectural approach emphasizes space, on either a hyper level or wide open fields. Biosphere's arctic homeland Norway sets the scenery of many of his musical projects. But also other locations and conditions have been subject to his work, like the instability of Japan's nuclear power plants.
Biosphere creates immersive atmospheres in which time and space are being anatomized.

German electronic producer Hendrik Weber has been active under the moniker of Pantha du Prince since 2002. From his recently acclaimed release "Elements of Light" in collaboration with The Bell Laboratory - to his earlier releases on the Dial label, Pantha du Prince shows his eagerness to combine electronics and acoustics, technology and nature.

'Music is always already there, even without humans'. Pantha du Prince's definition of music sets no boundaries. To him, music slumbers in all matter. His mission is to render audible what is unheard - and what is unheard of. In his use of natural field recordings, improvisation and technology become indistinguishable. Narratives are driven by diverse acoustic designs of which the tiny details form organic phrases. Electro-acoustic environments move from concrete shapes to complex harmonies, from sweet melodies to random noise, and to silence.
