''The ROUTING section is very important as this
explains how you can use the unit, in terms of capabilities and
limitations.
The H8000FW shouldn't be considered the main soundcard in a system as
it's mainly designed to process audio tracks via its I/Os. The
addition of Firewire connection is a great tool, provided a
professional recording system supports multiple FW drivers at the same
time when including a dedicated FW audio interface.
If you intend to use the H8000Fw as main audio interface...you are
limited to 4 analog inputs. Also consider that the H8000FW will only
see 8 inputs (and outputs). So learning to route audio inside the unit
is very important.
Probably better connecting the monitors to the mixer as you have
easier and faster control.
Italo.

I am saying that the soundcard function of the H8000FW is not its main
reason.
The FW connection would typically be used for sending tracks audio to the
H8000FW for processing, then back to your DAW for mixing, pretty much like
using Aux Sends/Returns on analog consoles.
This is typically desirable and easily possible on more professional DAW
software like ProTools or Logic Pro.
The unit may also be used as an audio interface...but any dedicated audio
interface will *obviously* have more flexibility as it usually comes with a
mixing software that makes control and general management easy.
The H8000FW is a serious sounding audio interface...but it doesn't replace a
dedicated unit.

The reason why there is not much info is because the unit is a super
professional FX processor with FW capability.
This capability can be used for FX processing (Sends/Returns) or for an
audio interface.

I'm saying that if somebody uses a FW soundcard and wants to use the FW
capability of the H8000Fw, he'll get limitations from the fact the majority
of DAW software do not support multiple different FW drivers. This doesn't
happen in Logic and ProTools though.

The H8000FW will always and "only" see 8 inputs and outputs. That's the max
number.
If you are happy within the limitations you may get from the unit...then it
will be your soundcard.
In my opinion I would use a dedicated sound card and let the H8000FW shine
in its wonderful FX capabilities without constraints from being the audio
interface, There are more possibilities there....

Yes, provided you create the proper internal routing to do that.
