A bit from the same time that the Z1000 sequencer came on the market... the QX1 from Yamaha. Not a monitor, but a solid workhorse.. just unaffordable back then.:mega:
Not the looks of the Akai, but in terms of design it fits very well with the DX7:)
Yes, Z1000 and QX1 were about the same time, mid-80s (84-85). UK announcements:

AKAI CPZ1000 MIDI Recorder/Controller - Sixteen-track real- and step-time sequencer, approx 50,000 note capacity, built-in disk drive, three MIDI Ins, three MIDI Outs; works in conjunction with RZ1000 keyboard unit and MZ1000 monitor.
£1699

YAMAHA QX1 - Eight-track digital MIDI sequencer, real-time recording with extensive step-time editing facilities, 32 songs, 999 measures, pitch bend, modulation, key velocity, aftertouch control parameter information; approx 80,000 note capacity, disk storage, MIDI In, Thru, eight MIDI Outs.
£1999

By the way, Thanks for posting the CPZ1000/RZ1000/MZ1000 brochure. I've been looking for it everywhere!

Some shameless screenshots of a brochure when Akai was still in the black production line.

Here they were clearly still prototypes, with presumed MIDI inputs on the front panel.
thanks for that!
Would you have a clear hi-rez scan (flat, straight and uncropped) of this brochure by any chance?

The black version of the CPZ1000 system in this brochure was the prototype used for the first demonstration of the AKAI Micro Studio System (MG1212 + S612 + AX80), on the bottom right corner of this photo. It originally had 4 MIDI I/Os, reduced to 3 on the white version that was never produced:

Also nice for the enthusiast, a black predecessor of the MX76 master keyboard and a black VX90. I actually saw the last one on eBay.

That black MX76 was never made, unfortunately. There was first a white MX73 (synth keys), and then a white MX76 ("piano" keys) (and the prototype of an MWS76 combining the MX76 and ASQ10), but the user interface was completely different from the black MX76 that looked much more like a Yamaha KX88.
Years later, Akai released the MX1000 with a much better interface (and an optional piano sounds board)

The black VX90 was actually a rack version of the AX90 prototype (big brother to the AX80, with dual/split capability).
The white VX90 is a poorly named rack version of the AX73!

And to complete the cabinet of curiosities, folder 2.

The MS08 a sequencer (with keys), the MR16 the predecessor of what would later become the XE8.
thanks for that too!
Would you have a clear hi-rez scan (flat, straight and uncropped) of this brochure by any chance? I can't find it anywhere. I only have a very poor pic of it:

nice.. 2 s-3000xl's in in de linkerhoek?

Mooi design van die oude Akai's.. stuk imposanter dat hun huidige spul..

Akai X7000 is echt de B.O.M., daar speel ik ZO graag op en mee... De beperkingen, de lage bitrates, de indienbaar zelfze media (ik gebruik geen gotek er op), de filter, de korte sampletijd...

Zalig ding.......

Maakt instant creatief...
