Thunderbolt naar FireWire perikelen.

M’n Fireface 400 (link 1) is met een standaard kabel aangesloten op PC, Geen probleem, werkt prima.
Nu wil ik de Fireface 400 op m’n iMac (late 2014) aansluiten waarvoor ik al de Apple Thunderbolt 2 naar FireWire 800 Adapter (link 2), De kabel echter past niet. Klein probleem ware het niet de onduidelijke info omtrent de juiste kabel.

Dus exact, welke firewire kabel moet tussen de Fireface 400 en de Apple Thunderbolt naar FireWire 800 Adapter ? Graag een link met duidelijk specificaties en/foto’s. Kabellengte graag 3 of 5 meters…

Een vierpins-FireWire-aansluiting is maar heel klein, en heeft een "deukje" op de lange zijde, en dat is het geval bij die Apple adapter. MAAR… Het verschil tussen vierpins en zespins is dat in het laatste geval ook voeding wordt geleverd aan het aangesloten apparaat. Zodus ?????????

Was het niet zo dat RME andere (eigen ) data gebruikt van de "Total mix FX " dus geen standaard data zoals in "firewire" dus ik denk niet dat een converter werkt.

Het is geen software probleem.

De hardware van RME werkt prima en volgens standaard.
Apple verkoopt ook een adapter voor die aansluiting, (zie de geposte links dan wel eerst aub) maar...
De Apple firewire-aansluiting is echter geen standaard (weerom).
Zover ben ik nu gevorderd, ik hoop enkel de juise kabel te vinden.

Hier heb je een meter meer voor een derde van de prijs: https://www.allekabels.nl/firewire-kabel/16/1083623/firewire-kabel.html. Zelf deze week binnen gekregen om tussen mijn presonus mixer en thunderbolt fw adapter te zetten.

De Apple firewire-aansluiting is echter geen standaard (weerom).

Dat is het wel, het is een Firewire 800 connector. Die is 100% standaard. Alleen nieuwer dan FW400.

Exact de kabel die kobuz noemt heb ik zelf ook en gebruik ik zonder problemen tussen de Apple adapter en een MOTU 828.

Soit, zowel kabel en adapter zijn nu besteld. Hopelijk loopt het verder vlotjes.

Ja, dat is zo te zien een beetje een gebrekkige en verouderde pagina. Zoals zo vaak op de Nederlandse wiki.
Ze noemen zelfs niet eens het gebruik voor DV (ik denk het meest voorkomende gebruik van Firewire).
Je moet voor de grap eens kijken hoeveel uitgebreider de Engelstalige wiki over Firewire is.

Maar iets verderop in het Nederlandstalige artikel staat wel dat FW800 een 9-pins connector gebruikt.

Komt vast goed, het loopt hier soepeltjes op een 2015 iMac (Thunderbolt 2 -> adapter -> FW800-400 kabel -> MOTU)

Top Ten Tips

1. Avoid plugging or unplugging the FireWire cables when your audio interface, computer or Paca(rana) is powered on
2. When plugging in the FireWire cable, make sure that the cable is connected in the correct orientation (not upside down)
3. Be gentle with the FireWire connections; they require very little force to be connected properly
4. The FireWire cable should plug straight into the connector on the back of the Paca(rana) and the cable should not have any tension on it
5. Use 1394b bilingual cables (see diagram below)
6. For extra protection, use a FireWire 800 or FireWire 400 hub; leave the Paca(rana) permanently connected to the hub and do all plugging/unplugging into the hub
7. Make sure you connect to the correct FireWire bus (your computer may have more than one)
8. For fastest speeds, connect the Paca(rana) directly to the FireWire 800 port of your computer or to a FireWire 800 hub (rather than through a FireWire 400 device or hub)
9. You can use the two Paca(rana) ports to daisy-chain devices, but the daisy-chain only works while the Paca(rana) is powered on
10. When using an Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter, all of these same tips apply
