Antenes

Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and electronics artist Antenes operates a laboratory of self-made sequencers and modular synthesizers built in the name of rhythmic, sonic, and spatial exploration. Tracing the lineage of synthesizer operation to vintage telephone equipment and inspired by the Buchla 100, her curious studio discipline of manipulating repurposed switchboards was fueled by the desire to breathe new life into long-silenced machines, transforming signal paths through which voices once travelled into sequences that burst with percussive energy and evolving textures, bouncing sound through sound like so many distant AM radio stations on a late night drive. Her 2015 solo production debut, The Track of a Storm EP on L.I.E.S. reveals three tracks of otherworldly techno infused with “lazer shot synthwork,” “ghostly noise layers,” “muscular bass shapes and sparking percussions," appearing on the 2015 best-of lists for Juno and Fact magazine.

MeSM

MeSm is a duo of Roel Meelkop and Jos Smolders. Both musicians have been part of the Dutch experimental avant-garde since the mid 1980s. A few years ago Smolders radically shifted from laptop and computer based composition to the hands-on and much more tactile approach of the modular synthesizer. Currently he is regarded as one of those who really masters the patches. His idea of accurately pre-composed works has been abandoned in favor of a completely open approach. He translated the ideas of 'here and now' that are common in Zen practice to the stage. This offers a perfect match with the developments of Roel Meelkop. Jos and Roel have been partners in legendary electro acoustic improvisers THU20. Meelkop also has shifted towards meditative sessions and uses singing bowls, gongs, feathers as well as bows as his sonic tools.
Together they now form MeSm, a perfect blend of acoustics and electronics. The performances of MeSm are sparse, unrehearsed and develop at the very moment of performance. To enhance the listener's attention an atmosphere of concentration is created. There are no and there will be no public recordings of MeSm's performances. You experience the sounds when they are created, and only then. This too, enhances the attention of everyone present.

Wouter Jaspers

Wouter Jaspers, auteur of field recordings and synth adventures making use of his busy tour schedule to amass a noise archive where the narrative qualities of sound become catalysts for ambient folk chasms and ear splitting adventures.

In 2011 Jaspers co-founded the Berlin-based electronic musical instrument manufacturer KOMA Elektronik, where he currently is the CEO and Product Architect, using his experience in the field to create machines for experimental musicians. Most of his music is released by Tilburg-based label and collective Vatican Analog. Jaspers lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Andreas Greiner & Tyler Friedman: Studies of An Alien Skin

Studies of An Alien Skin is a live audio- & videoperformance by Berlin-based sound artist/composer Tyler Friedman and installation artist Andreas Greiner. Tyler creates an analog synthesizer composition based on movements of the small skin sparkles of Squid Skin with live video of the special Japanese squids, that are capable of producing natural light, by Andreas (winner of GASAG Kunstpreis for 2016). The sounds of the music go along with the breath, heartbeat and movement of the squids filmed with a microscopic close up perspective over the skin. The piece was premiered at Berghain in May 2017 and this is the first Dutch appearance.
