stephen parsick: deltaplan extended -- muziek voor polders

Hoi,

ik dacht dat het jullie misschien zou interesseren dat er inmiddels een paar download-only releases van mij via het netlabel Extended Moment verkrijgbaar zijn. Voor wie mijn werk nog niet elders is tegengekomen, het zal zeker degenen aanspreken die van Dark Ambient Music en Drone Music houden in de trent van Robert Rich, Lustmord, Steve Roach, of Thomas Köner en vidnaObmana (om maar een paar te noemen die zich met soortgelijke muziek bezighouden).

De nieuwste daarvan is "deltaplan extended -- muziek voor polders". Waarom "extended"? Ik heb de muziek op "deltplan" al begin afgelopen jaar in een beperkte oplage van maar slechts 25 genummerde cdr´s uitgebracht (de oplage was binnen één week uitverkocht). Nu ben ik besloten om de muziek opnieuw als download uit te brengen, met wat bonusmateriaal daarbij.

De muziek op "deltaplan" onstond tijdens de rehearsals voor mijn concert met Phelios in een kerk in Wuppertal/Duitsl. in november 2006, en mijn bijdrage aan het concert staat hier nu ook nog op ("vloedland"). Hier gaat het om een ambience opname die ik met een Jecklin OSS Disc heb gemaakt, in combinatie met een oude Sennheiser MKE-2002 "kunsthoofdmicrofoon", dus jullie krijgen er een indruk van hoe het in de kerk klonk tijdens het optreden (met name als je de muziek via een koptelefoon zit te beluisteren).

Voor de gearheads: Ik heb grotendeels een Sequential Prophet VS en een Technics WSA-1 ingezet, plus diverse loop devices (twee Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro en een Electrix Repeater) en wat rand-apparatuur, plus hier en daar geluiden uit een ARP 2600 en een Mini Moog. En natuurlijk ook nog mijn lapsteel gitaar die ik met´n E-Bow bespeelde.

daar zijn ook nog een paar andere downloads te vinden. Voor degenen die van Space Music houden is "planetary music" zeker heel interessant (een live-opname van een concert dat ik afgelopen maart in een planetarium heb gegeven), en wie meer van low frequency drones houdt zal "tektonik" zeker heel boeiend vinden. "cold stroage" klinkt nogal industrieel en experimenteel, en "gronland" is een live-improvisatie met Prophet VS en WSA-1. Er zitten voldoende audio snippets op Extended Moment, dus ga maar gewoon luisteren!

"Stephen states in the press sheet that the music (he actually calls it his “water album”) for this cd began to take shape as he was rehearsing with Phelios for the live music which later would end up on “It always rains in Wuppertal”. The lap steel guitar is featured as well, its great moving sound already shows up in “part 1”. The ambient music on “Deltaplan”, split in six parts, is of a intense, eery and foreboding nature. There’s a lot of tension and dynamics incorporated in the looped and meandering soundscapes, which seeks its way in the same manner as the water did at the time of the Dutch great flood disaster of 1953. “Part 4” becomes even more dynamic and scary as some mighty drums (played by Phelios) kick in. Stephen used field recordings (recorded with a dummy head) made in a polder to enhance the listening experience and sonic impact of the carefully sculptured and shaped dronescape music. While listening to this nicely rendered atmospheric ambient, one can almost feel the menace of flowing masses of water and the enormous power its inhabits.

Like the previous ambient albums, “Deltaplan” is a limited release of only 25 numbered copies."

"This recording contains the live concert these two musicians gave in Wuppertal on November 24, 2006. Phelios, a dark ambient project by Martin Stuertzer, and Stephen Parsick (who got to know each other through a German synthesizer forum) both played one solo set and ended the performance with a collaborative work.
The title track by Phelios opens with drama as brass sound burst out, later ending up in dense, slowly flowing textures and darkening soundscapes with occasional classic string drones and experimental sound design and effects. Certainly no music for the faint hearted and personally not my cup of tea.
Next comes Stephen’s track “Floodland”, which sounds more accessible and suits me better. The atmosphere of deep textural plains of sound, water washing ashore and loops approaches the outcome as heard on Parsick’s concept album “Deltaplan”. There’s even some nice lap steel guitar showing up around the 14 and 24 minute mark as the deep morphing soundscapes seek their way.
The album ends with the dynamic soundings of “Here comes the flood”, which sees Phelios and Parsick nicely playing together as they bring the album to its finale. The fluid, grand textures presented here feature some energetic drums as well.
All in all, this limited edition cd (released in a small batch of only 50 copies) is an ambient work for those loving the deeper depths of the genre, as it can only be enjoyed when one pays full attention."

Nee hoor, ik heb daar maar´ns opgetreden maar die gast die toen met mij samenwerkte, die woont daar wel... met de Schwebebahn rijden is trouwens best leuk maar ik word er steeds weer zeeziek van omdat ie zo hobbelt .
